The Legislative Council earlier passed the (Dentists Registration (Amendment) Bill) in its third reading, and today the Department of Health officially launched the recruitment exercise for non-locally trained dentists.
The Department of Health stated that information has been published on its website for individuals from various regions to access. It will also promote the recruitment exercise through collaboration with Hong Kong’s overseas offices in different locations. Dentists interested in practicing in Hong Kong may apply to the Dental Council of Hong Kong for limited or special registration after passing an interview and receiving a conditional offer of employment. Once approved, they can work directly for the Department of Health.
The spokesperson added that the amended provisions will be gradually implemented starting next year, allowing eligible non-locally trained dentists to practice in Hong Kong. This aims to increase the local dental workforce and better support public and subsidized dental services. The Department will maintain close communication with the Dental Council, with the goal of bringing in the first batch of non-locally trained dentists through the new mechanism in the first quarter of next year.
